Suburbia. That circle of habitation surrounding our cities. Suburbia. That zone often looked-down upon as a diminished form of the City. Suburbia. That dormitory for workers seeking more space or affordability.

Confession time. I have lived most of my life in one suburban enclave or another. I therefore feel accredited to hold up the photographic mirror and appraise a much-neglected part of our geographic heritage. I grew up in 1960/70s housing developments.

It struck me that cities have often been visited by the street photography community.  The countryside has often been visited by landscapers. Suburbia, with its sense of the boring, the mundane, the everyday, the run-down has provided far less inspiration for photographers. It, therefore, seemed a challenge to find photographic treasure under my feet.
